The Moosehead Lake region offers some of the most spectacular hiking trails in the Northeast. Only a few miles from Burnt Jacket at Moosehead Lake, the famous Appalachian Trail approaches its grand finale atop Mount Katahdin, elevation 5,268 feet. Other nearby trails include Gulf Hagas, a magnificent four-mile gorge called the Grand Canyon of Maine. Big Moose Mountain offers thrilling views of Moosehead Lake and Mount Katahdin.
